CORRE works with managing contractors of the Oak Ridge, Tennessee facilities, Department of Energy (DOE), National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), local and state officials, congressional representatives, and other related organizations to secure fair, just, and equitable retirement benefits for all eligible retirees.

There is no disagreement about the erosive impact of inflation and the resulting loss of purchasing power of pensions. The last general increase in pensions was implemented on April 1, 2001, but was given only to those who retired prior to April 1998. Oak Ridge contractors, like many others within the DOE complex, are faced with continually increasing costs of health insurance for their employees and their retirees.  Beginning in 2012, significant changes in health insurance plans were instituted primarily for future employees. CORRE continues to monitor the experience and acceptance of the new program. Retirees' Request: Equalize the cost of the Surviving Spouse Option by extending the same cost, 2% reduction in pension, to all retirees regardless of retirement date. Retirees are trapped in that their welfare is largely dependent on past circumstances, choices, and actions.  They have little flexibility to adapt when their retirement benefits are changed.  We are concerned that the contractors do not always consider the plight of their retirees when changes in benefits are contemplated.
