Grandfathered Retirees

This past week, new white Department of Labor (DOL) cards were sent out to those entitled to medical benefits under the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act (EEOICPA). The letter was dated April 17, 2020 with instructions to begin using the new white DOL card effective April 27, 2020.

AGRE was notified yesterday by a retiree that the card he received mentions "The Division of Coal Mine Workers' Compensation" and is a "Black Lung Benefits Identification Card." The retiree called the local Oak Ridge DOL Office to report the issue, and they shared they had received other calls about the cards. There may have been a mix-up with the plastic card stock used when printing.

So, if you received a new white DOL card recently, check it to make sure it is labeled as follows:

US Department of Labor
Office of Workers' Compensation Programs
Division of Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation

(Round Seal)
Medical Benefits Identification Card
Name, Case Number, etc.

If you received the Coal Mine Workers' Compensation card by mistake, please cut up and discard -- and keep using your old DOL EEOIC card until a replacement arrives. If you wish to check on the status of a new card, call (866) 272-2682. We wish to thank the retiree for bringing this issue to the attention of AGRE.
