Barry graduated from Clinton High School in 1980, and he obtained a Bachelor Degree in Criminal Justice from East Tennessee State University in 1985.

Barry began his career at K-25, later known as the East Tennessee Technology Park (ETTP), as Security Inspector under Martin Marietta Energy Systems in 1988. Barry remained in the Security organization and transitioned from Martin Marietta to Lockheed Martin, then to Wackenhut Security Services, then National Strategic Protective Services, and finally to Golden Services and Centeria.

Barry retired in December 2020 with 32 years service. Except for nine months, all of Barry's service was the K-25 (ETTP) site.
