G. Malcolm Stocks is an ORNL Corporate Fellow Emeritus. He formally retired from ORNL in 2018 with more than 42-years of service.

He was Group Leader of the Theory Group in the Metals and Ceramics ( 2001-2006) and Materials Science and Technology Divisions (2006-2014) and Director of the “Energy Frontier Center for Defect Physics in Structural Materials” (2009-2014).  He was appointed ORNL Corporate Fellow in 1995. He is a Fellow of the American Physical Society (1982).  

His areas of scientific expertise include first principles electronic structure theory, the theory of magnetism, alloy theory, strongly correlated electron physics, and the application of parallel algorithms and high-performance computers.

He has authored >250 peer-reviewed journal articles and >550 total scientific publications. He is editor of six books, organizer of numerous international conferences and symposia and co-author of the monograph “Multiple Scattering Theory: Electronic structure of solids”.

Malcolm is past president of the Rotary Club of Oak Ridge Sunset (2019-2020).
